For over fifteen years, Bologna has been subjected to the graphic vandalism perpetrated by graffiti writers, both in the historic city centre and on the outskirts. Even in streets lined with monuments, the deterioration of the urban landscape is evident as a result of the spread of tags and writing over all kinds of surfaces: stone, plaster, wooden doors, shutters and urban furnishings. Since the beginning of 2009 we have witnessed the start of a so-called “redevelopment” process, set in motion by graffiti artists and shop owners and involving the free decoration of the shutters of the shops. What is both disconcerting and paradoxical is that behind this idea lie the municipal council, the University and a project by three student associations that won an open competition in 2008. The arrival of the Commissioner for Bologna appears to have prompted the start of the operation to clean the walls, following the process of experimentation with techniques and products implemented together with the Superintendence offices. Work limited to a number of streets has been carried out by Ascom and by volunteer associations, but no measures have as yet been defined to clean the rest of the city, to put a stop to the unregulated decoration of shutters and to give Bologna back the decorum a major European historic centre deserves.

Da oltre quindici anni Bologna subisce il vandalismo grafico dei writers,  sia in centro storico che in periferia.  Anche nelle strade  monumentali è evidente il grave degrado dovuto al dilagare di tags e scritte su ogni tipo di superficie: pietre, intonaci, legno dei portoni, serrande e arredo urbano. Dall’inizio del 2009 abbiamo potuto assistere all’inizio di una presunta “riqualificazione” attuata da graffitisti e commercianti, tramite la libera decorazione delle serrande dei negozi. Sconcertante e paradossale  è il fatto  che all’origine dell’iniziativa ci sia l’approvazione del Comune, dell’Università degli Studi  e un progetto di tre Associazioni studentesche, vincitrici nel 2008 di un bando pubblico. Con l’arrivo del Commissario di Bologna sembra che il piano di ripulitura dei muri sia stato avviato, dopo la sperimentazione di tecniche e prodotti attuata insieme alle Soprintendenze. Interventi circoscritti ad alcune vie sono stati realizzati da Ascom e da associazioni di volontari, ma per ripulire tutto il resto, per fermare la decorazione selvaggia delle serrande, per restituire alla città il decoro di un grande centro storico europeo non è stato ancora definito alcun provvedimento.
