Francesco Delizia: Architettura fortificata in Penisola sorrentina: conoscenza e conservazione della torre di Crapolla
At a first glance, the tower of Crapolla appears as an isolated building by the hillside of Monte di Torca, but to a closer look it is an interesting evidence of a traditional way of building amplified by the state of conservation of its surfaces to which it is associated a symbolic value due to the particular shape of the building. As far as the study of the context of the Crapolla area is concerned, the research highlights profound relations between the tower and the fiord, the town up on the hill, a territorial defensive system, a building typology. These relations are unrecognizable in the actual condition of marginality of the site as far as concerned the economic dynamics, the routes and signs of old infrastructures of the territory. The present essay proposes a deepening study on the tower of Crapolla taking into account the historical reasons of its isolation and abandonment and the lines for the preservation and reconnection of such an emblematic building to the territorial system. The underlying question is whether the fact that this building is so emblematic (also because it is more and better preserved than the other towers along the Amalfi Coast) is a sufficient justification for its preservation. Moreover, it is still controversial whether it is still worth looking for any elementary way of management without the possibility of using the building for some significant direct fruition.
