Gianluca Vitagliano: Architetture rurali nell’ambiente del fiordo
The rural architecture heritage in the fiord of Crapolla testifies the presence of human settlements since the Roman era. It is a consistent set of buildings making up the identity of the site, architectural works meant to serve the needs of a community of fishermen living in a hardly accessible site that is progressively degrading due to its inaccessibility. This contribution aims to illustrating the characteristics of the above-mentioned heritage and to identifying a way to enhance the site without endangering its conservation. On this basis, identifying suitable conservation and restoration actions depends on the possibility of making a reliable hypothesis on the historical evolution of the buildings. Conservation actions are needed in order to stop the decay of the site, as both human and natural causes have been jeopardizing the integrity of the heritage. However, it is understood that any action affecting the buildings will be conditioned upon the definition of appropriate use classifications. This is the only way to start an enhancement process on the site of Crapolla and to preserve the heritage and its links to the local community, in order to pass it on to future generations.
