Gianluigi de Martino: I resti archeologici nella marina di Crapolla
The archaeological emergencies are definitely among the most striking of the approach that it is possible to have with the site of Crapolla Harbour. The archaeological evidence of this pattern of organization and management of the territory is remarkable, not only with regard to the cities, for the most part, historically layered and evolved in the current cities, but also for all constructions of different extension marking the territory. The work of rebuilding the so-called system of seaside villas is more complex, widespread especially as constructive system since the mid-second century BC. Encountering significant archaeological complex on a site, as the gorge of Crapolla, arouses thoughts in the visitor so much as the scholar, not necessarily so far away from each other. The 'value of antiquity' of partial structures in a state of ruin offers immediate observation. The particular situation of the site quickly leads to the conclusion that, due to the exposure and the relative inaccessibility, we are not faced with foundation of something that was developed in height. On the other hand, the plaster of the largest and most intact of these spaces, suggests the configuration of a tank rather than general stores. The current state of conservation of the complex (which is already in a state of ruin) highlights the urgent need for restoration. The need to save a precious piece of architectural heritage is certainly one of the main reasons, but the need is also to find a use compatible with the architectural peculiarities of the structures and with the characteristics of an environment such as this rocky ridge on which the complex rises.
