THE LOGGIA DEI MERCANTI IN BOOGNA A DECADE AFTER RESTORATION
More than ten years after the restoration works (1996), the façade of the XIV cent. Loggia dei Mercanti (Merchants Loggia) in Bologna was examined in order to investigate its present state in an area with high pollution. The 1996 restoration works have thus be retraced in their methodological approach and operative phases as related to the diagnostic survey, in order to ascertain the long-term compatibility between new and existing materials and the resistance of the restoration materials to the surrounding polluted environment. In the present paper it’s showen that diagnostics is basic for any restoration work and leads to effective and durable outcomes. As a matetr of fact, the building presently doesn’t show any significant sign of decay, thus the 1996 restoration works are to be considered successful.
